And here's my version of JACK!

I added papers from Jack Paper Packet X7222B and coordinating yardstick X7222D to a white card base. I dry embossed the grey cardstock with a retired snowflake embossing folder. I added white burlap ribbon X3323 around the center. My saying was printed on my computer/printer in dark red ink and the juniper and white daisy cardstock were cut with the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge. The bear and mug are from the Jack card making kit and dies Z3333. Last Saturday my niece's high school basketball team played for the league championship. As you can see by her face, THEY WON! She was so excited that she jumped right into my son's arms when he went to congratulate her. It is not the greatest photo-pretty blurry since they were jumping around and I took it on my phone. But it captures her JOY at winning! This was her last high school game as she is a senior so it was pretty BIG! She was named Honorable Mention all-league as well, so a great end to a great season. I can't wait to scrapbook this shot, along with many others from the season. Talk about sweet! This mini album page was made by my talented customer, Sarah Mills. She made this cute mini album featuring her cousin's adorable baby. We made the whole album in under an hour. We set the size dial and chose the images without changing the dial! It was so quick and easy! Give it a try today!

In the new Fall/Winter 2013 catalog there are great new stamps designated especially for hostesses. They are available as part of the rewards for hostesses at great prices. The stamp above is part of this program. It is called Bright All Night. It looks great in any color scheme with any paper pack. Here I used Twilight ink and an old paper pack called Wonderland. It makes such a quick, easy card. Plan your gathering and earn some great hostess stamps for yourself!

Yesterday was a big day for our family. Our youngest son, Peyton graduated from high school. It was one of those bittersweet moments--we are so proud of him, yet I'm not sure we are ready for him to leave the nest. His older brother is finished with school (for now anyway) and is working. He lives at home, but we don't see much of him. Peyton is working two jobs this summer so we won't see much of him either. How did they grow up so fast?
In the meantime I am busy planning his graduation party for this Saturday and I'm busy making favors using Close to My Heart products of course! I'll post pictures of those soon. Maybe it will spark your creativity for upcoming parties or showers.
Ever have one of those moments, when you know in your heart that you are incredibly proud of your child? Well this is it. I know the picture is dark and hard to see, but number 10 in the black jersey and pants standing on the edge of the crowd is my youngest son, Peyton. In this football game he caught a pass and was running upfield when he was tackled head-on by a HUGE player from the other team. There was a sickening crunch--you know one of those crunches when you know that one of the players won't be walking off the field? I watched as the pile of players around the play stood up just knowing that my son would be lying there on the ground. I dreaded what I would see. To my amazement, he jumped up straight in the air and jogged off the field. His coach was screaming at him asking if he was okay and telling him to take his helmet off so he could check his eyes for signs of a concussion. My son was fine. The other poor player had to be carried off the field. At the end of the game, Peyton went over to check on the player before they hauled him off in the squad. He apologized and wished him a speedy recovery. I took this picture with tears in my eyes, knowing what a special kid I have. He was the leading scorer not long ago on his basketball team and one of the fans asked me if I was proud of him. I smiled, but inside I thought, no not really. Scoring the most points in a game doesn't matter. Checking to make sure an opposing player is going to be okay, that's what matters. Yep, he's my son, and I'm proud all right.Martha Barnetthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11137818587593439103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145943688246683173.post-39011570129755238042013-02-03T14:24:00.001-08:002013-02-03T14:24:54.816-08:00Muslin Bags Are Here!

To celebrate the new year, I have been working on a new technique that I learned this summer in Amish country. I went to a little craft store in Sugarcreek, Ohio and saw some fabulous snowy cards made with...can you believe it....used DRYER sheets! Yes those left-over dryer sheets that you usually throw away. Now they have to be white and they have to be USED. New ones won't work. I can't use dryer sheets due to my son's allergies so I asked my dear friends Lori and Jill to save theirs for me. Yes, they thought I was CRAZY! So here are the directions and following the card sample is a product list. Of course everything I used is available from Close to My Heart!

Directions for dryer sheet card:

1. On plain white cardstock stamp your snow scene image. You can use solid stamps as I did or use line stamps and color them in. Just make sure you use darker colors and if you are coloring use markers with a heavy hand rather than chalks or pencils.

2. Spray the panel with spray adhesive. You can find this at any craft or hardware store or in those departments of stores like Wal-Mart. You could probably also use a Xyron machine to apply adhesive to just the front of the panel. I don't know if a wet glue would work--it might smear the ink, but you could give it a try.

3. Adhere your used, white dryer sheet and smooth it out.

4. Trim any excess dryer sheet.

5. Now sprinkle prisma glitter over the dryer sheet. It will stick! Shake off any excess glitter.

6. Attach your panel to your card front. Notice I added a second colored cardstock panel and then attached mine to a white card base. I like white card bases so I can write a message inside my card easier.

That's it! Quick and very easy and oh so elegant! I plan to start making these for my Christmas cards next year! Keep saving those dryer sheets girls!

After clicking through them numerous times, I finally selected this one to grace my hallway wall of photos of the kids. Something about the green really looks good on her. Of course it's hard to mess up a photo of her, but I am pretty proud of this one. It was taken at a state park near my house and the background was perfect. I have been a busy bee indeed! My son, Perry, pictured above with his girlfriend, Taylor graduated this year so I had a major party to throw in his honor. Then I decided to have a major scrapbook/garage sale and got busy with that. By the way, I am continuing my scrapbook sale tomorrow and Saturday from 8am to noon. Everything is 85% off! Stop by if you get a chance! Taylor won Reserve Champion Market Goat and Reserve Champion Market Lamb at her county fair. We are very proud of her and of Perry. He was a big help to her in getting her animal projects ready. Next they will both show at the Ohio State Fair and then Perry will show at our county fair. This is their last year, so we are trying to enjoy every minute of it. In fact, Perry turns 19 tomorrow! Happy Birthday! My oldest son, Perry had two proms back to back. His first was for his high school on Friday night and then for his girlfriend's school on Saturday night! Whew! I took over 400 photos during the course of the weekend. And to end things, we had my niece, Ellie's 17th birthday party tonight! Here are Perry and Ellie (cousins) from their prom Friday night, Ellie in a close-up (wish I could claim she gets her beauty from me!), Ellie with her boyfriend, Cody, Perry and his girlfriend, Taylor from Friday night and then Saturday night. Yes, Taylor wore two different dresses! That was to attend the funeral of a former student. Her name was Jamie and she was only 20 years old. She was killed this past Monday in a car accident. Another driver went left of center and hit her nearly head-on. She was on her way home from her job to have lunch. Her parents and older sister (also a former student) are all wonderful people. It was probably the lowest point of my career. I hope I never have to do this again. My students should come to my funeral when I'm about 94 years old! I did see a lot of my former students at the funeral and I was glad they were there for one another.

Our older son received the DeKalb award and a scholarship from the local farm association. Our younger son received the sophomore leadership award. What a great night for both of them! We were so proud. Our oldest will be graduating in just a few weeks and will be attending the local branch of The Ohio State University. His brother is finishing his sophomore year and will be going to high school part-time next year and also attending college classes. Can they possibly be this old? Yikes! That must mean I'm getting old! By the way, the son on the left (oldest) looks just like my husband and the son on the right is the spitting image of me! And they are NOTHING alike! Sigh...we are so blessed. I thank God for these two every day. This one was one of my favorites! She is such a hoot with her big old bling sunglasses. We had a great time and she was pretty pleased with her pictures. I have not posted in forever! That's what happens when I get busy! I have been working on getting displays ready for the Memories Expo in Columbus on March 25 and 26. Here is my newest layout featuring the new Sophia Level 2 paper pack. That beautiful creature is my niece Ellie when she starred in our high school production of GREASE last spring. The colors in the paper pack look perfect with her costume from the musical. The layout is from the Sophia Workshop on the Go kit. I love these kits because they are so quick and easy. Everything you need is included in the kit. This one included buttons in the pink collection and waxy flax in colonial white. The directions for this layout were included in the kit along with directions for 3 card patterns. You can also access an additional 2 page layout and 3 more card patterns on the corporate Close to My Heart website. Wow! That's a bargain for the price-$29.95! You have plenty of leftover scraps to get creative with as well. If you haven't tried these kits, you definitely should. This layout was from the Mistletoe Workshop on the Go kit. I love these kits because they take the guesswork out of scrapping. The directions are included so it is quick and easy to make.
